STANFORD, Calif. -
The Stanford fencing team will travel to Evanston, Ill., this weekend to compete in the Northwestern Duals hosted by Northwestern University at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion on Feb. 2-3.
The 10th-ranked men's fencing team (4-0) will look to remain undefeated as it takes on three top 10 opponents among the 10 schools it will face in total.
The men will face all three top 10 programs on Saturday beginning with No. 3 Notre Dame, then top-ranked Ohio State and finally No. 4 Princeton. Sunday won't be any easier with North Carolina and UC San Diego on the slate, as both teams received top 10 consideration.
The men's team's top 10 ranking is its first since Feb. 18, 2011, when it was ranked 10th.
Saturday will be a big day for the women's fencing team as it will take on four top 10 teams, including No. 1 Princeton, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 9 Temple. The team will see No. 7 Northwestern in its first dual on Sunday in its final top 10 matchup of the weekend.
The women will compete against a total of 12 schools and will look for a strong showing, especially against the top 10 opponents, after opening its season 4-1 at the Western Invitational on Jan. 12 and receiving votes in the coaches' poll.
