University Park, Pa. - The Stanford fencing team completed their 2008-09 season with another top national finish after placing ninth at the NCAA Championships. The Cardinal totaled 73 points, while Penn State won the national title with 195.

The Cardinal were particularly strong on the men's side where Lucas Janson and Max Murphy earned All-America honors. Stanford was in sixth place after the men's portion of the competition.

Both Janson and Murphy competed in sabre where they finished ninth and twelfth, respectively. Janson totaled 14 wins for the tournament and was the only Stanford fencer with a better than .500 winning percentage. Murphy picked up 11 wins to also earn All-America honors.

In epee, Clayton Kenney finished 16th, while Kevin Mo placed 17th for Stanford. Both Cardinal fencers earned 10 wins for the weekend.

Finally for the men was Alex Khoshnevissan who placed 16th in the foil competition. Khoshnevissan picked up nine wins for the Cardinal.

The women were led by three-time All-American Eva Jellison who finished 15th in sabre. Her eight wins fell just short of her fourth All-America honor.

Also competing for the women were Jessica Wacker who finished 22nd in foil and Kersten Schnurle who finished 22nd in epee. Wacker totaled six wins, while Schnurle finished with five.

Overall the five men competing finished with 54 wins, while the three women finished with 19. The ninth place finish was the fourth straight top-ten finish at the NCAA's for Stanford.
