NOTRE DAME, IN --- Stanford University is in third place with just one day of competition remaining at the NCAA men's and women's fencing championships at the Angela Athletic Facility in Notre Dame, Indiana. The Cardinal is led by Eric Tribbett, who leads the men's epee competition after the first five rounds.
Host Notre Dame leads with 128 points, while Penn State (125), Stanford (106), Columbia/Barnard (97) and St. John's (90) round out the top five.
Men's epee and foil fenced the first five of eight rounds of their competition on Saturday with rounds six through eight slated to conclude the championships on Sunday.
The championship consists of 120 fencers in five weapons with teams receiving one point for each win in the 24 fencer round-robin competition in each weapon. The top four fencers in each weapon advance to the championship semifinal and final where the winner in each weapon will be determined. Wins in this portion of the competition do not count toward team standings.
Tribbett is tied with six other fencers with a 10-4 mark in epee competition. Teammate Tom Hunt is in eighth place with an 8-7 mark.
After the first five rounds of men's foil competition, Stanford's Alex Wood and Tim Chang are in eighth and 16th place, respectively.
In the final men's sabre standings, Stanford was represented by Sasha Zucker, who finished 21st.
