Five current and former Stanford rowers were named to the Olympic rowing teams of the United States and Canada Friday, marking Stanford Rowing's greatest representation at an Olympic Games in program history. Elle Logan `10 and Lindsay Meyer `11, current members of the Stanford women's rowing team, will represent the U.S. in Beijing as Logan was named part of the Women's Eight (W8+) boat, and Meyer will be a member of the Women's Quadruple Sculls (W4x) boat. Lightweight crew's head coach, Al Acosta, was named the 2008 College Rowing Coaches Association's (CRCA) Pocock Racing Shells Lightweight Coach of the Year, as announced by the CRCA today. Acosta, in his fifth year at the helm of the Cardinal program, led his team in a season to remember as they captured their second Pacific Coast Championship and a third place finish at the IRA National Championship Regatta, the highest finish ever in program history at the national championship. >> Read More

On a humid Saturday on the East Coast, the Stanford men's and lightweight rowing teams turned in strong outings on the final day of the IRA Regatta. The men's squad took 10th place overall in the team competition, while individually, the varsity eight boat captured fifth place in its Grand Final and the freshman eight took first in the Petite Final. The Stanford men's rowing team will race in the first heat of the IRA Regatta with Washington, Columbia, Syracuse, Georgetown and Dartmouth on Thursday morning at 7:36 a.m. ET. The top two finishers will advance to the semi-final race on Friday. Stanford received the eighth seed in the twenty-four boat field that will determine the top team in collegiate men's rowing for 2008.
