Stanford Lands Two Rowers On CRCA Pocock Lightweight All-America Team

For the second year in a row, Stanford's lightweight crew landed a pair of rowers to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) 2009 Pocock Lightweight All-America Team as sophomores Katherine Heflin and Gretchen Stumhofer were named to the squad.

    Stanford's men's I Eight and Lightweight Eight boats each made the medal stand on Saturday's final day of competition at the IRA Championships at Lake Natoma, claiming bronze medals and third-place national finishes in their respective Grand Finals. The finish matches the lightweight boat's highest-ever national finish, set last year, and for the second-ranked men's I Eight, it improved two spots from last year's fifth-place national finish.

    Day two of the 2009 IRA Championships at Lake Natoma saw the No. 2 Stanford men's I Eight and the Lightweight Eight keep their national-title hopes alive by advancing to Saturday's Grand Final during Friday's competition. In other competition, the men's II Eight and Frosh Eight boats took second and third place, respectively, in their repechage races and will now participate in Saturday's petite finals.

    The Stanford lightweights rowed to a trio of victories Saturday at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on the waters of Lake Natoma, highlighted by the eight "three-peating" as the Pacific Coast champion. The lightweight four and novice four boats each claimed victory as well while the women's novice eight took fourth in its race.
