Stanford Lightweights Take Third At Head Of The Charles

2012 Head of the Charles results

BOSTON, Mass. - Stanford Lightweight Rowing took part at the Head of the Charles regatta Sunday in Boston, finishing third in the Lightweight Women's Eight class on the Charles River.

The Stanford Lightweights return to action at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport Beach on Nov. 4.

Rowing in blustery and slow Charles River conditions, the Cardinal women finished third behind Harvard and Wisconsin with a time of 17:36.087. Starting in the second position, the Cardinal slogged through the winding, serpentine course and fought to get the boat up to top speed.

By the halfway mark Harvard had passed Stanford and was charging down on Wisconsin. Stanford pushed hard in the last third of the race and was able to open up time on fourth-place Princeton, which finished 13 seconds behind the Cardinal.

"I'm always glad we come out here," said Stanford Lightweight Rowing head coach Al Acosta. "It's good to see your closest competitors and to remind yourself how fast we need to go."
