CRCA Lightweight All-Americans
CRCA Coach of the Year announcement
STANFORD, Calif. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches' Association (CRCA) announced its postseason honors, naming Stanford lightweight rowing head coach Al Acosta Division I Lighweight Coach of the Year and selecting rowers Mariel Lanas, Liz Fenje and Gretchen Stumhofer to the All-America Team.
The lightweight eight captured its second consecutive IRA National Championship this past weekend in Cherry Hill, N.J., out-distancing No. 1 Princeton and No. 3 Wisconsin. The lightweight eight has now finished in the national top three for four years running.
For Acosta, the honor marks the third time in the past four seasons that he has been selected as coach of the year. Acosta first took home the honor in 2008 following Stanford's third-place national finish then captured the award a second time after Stanford's national title win a year ago.
For Stumhofer, the announcement marked her third straight All-America selection. The senior from Corpus Christi, Texas was part of the I Eight boat that won its second straight national title. For Lanas, the coxswain of the boat, it is her second straight All-America selection, while Fenje, an Under-23 World Championships participant with Canada, earned her first All-America nod.
