2011 Pac-10 Challenge Schedule
STANFORD, Calif. - Although the Cardinal Lightweights recently defeated the University of Victoria, this weekend marks the official beginning to the 2011 spring racing season as defending national champion Stanford competes at Redwood Shores.
Stanford will see a lot of action early this year as they take on the second and third-place finishers from the 2010 IRA National Championships. On Saturday at 9:20 a.m. the Stanford Lightweight I Eight will face national runner-up Wisconsin in a battle of the top two finishers from last year's IRA.
At 10:30 a.m. Stanford and Wisconsin will face off in the II Eight event. For their second race of the day at 2:00 p.m. and 2:50 p.m., Stanford will take on California's third and fourth varsity.
On Sunday at 9:30 a.m. the Cardinal I Eight will line up against the third-place finisher from the 2010 IRA, Princeton. The Cardinal II Eight will race its opposite number from Princeton at 10:50 a.m.
"This has always been a great way to start the season," said Stanford lightweight rowing head coach Al Acosta. "It really helps motivate the team during the winter and were very fortunate to have the opportunity to race these teams on our home course.
