2007 IRA National Championship Website

Camden, N.J. - The Stanford Lightweight Eight qualified for the Grand Final in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Lightweight National Championship. The Cardinal advanced after winning Friday afternoon's repechage event. The Grand Final will be held at 1:12 Saturday June 2.

In the morning heats, Stanford finished third behind Bucknell and Princeton in the two-to-advance race to qualify straight to the grand final. Rounding out their heat was Long Beach, Central Florida, and Lehigh. In the second heat Radcliffe and Wisconsin moved straight to the final with Georgetown, Ohio State, MIT, and Loyola Marymount heading to a repechage.

With four teams already qualified for the grand final, eight teams raced in the afternoon repechage events for a second chance to qualify. Stanford pulled ahead early in their race and didn't let go. The Cardinal finished in first place, eight seconds ahead of Loyola Marymount and nine seconds ahead of Central Florida. Stanford will race in the grand final Saturday afternoon.

The Stanford Lightweight Eight will race at 1:12 p.m. EST.
