Eric Stein
Eric Stein came to Stanford in January, 2006 in a newly created position as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Physical Education, Recreation and Wellness. In this role, he oversees the Physical Education Program, Recreation Classes, Fitness and Wellness Services, Intramural Sports, Outdoor Education, Club Sports plus the Recreational usage of all of the Departmental facilities including the new Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation. Additionally, Stein has played a leadership role in developing the Be Well @ Stanford program which is the new University Wellness Initiative whose mission is to create a healthier Stanford by developing a culture of wellness that reaches every person on campus. Stein also serves as the Administrator for the Women's and Men's Varsity Golf Programs. Stein came to the farm from Princeton University where he served as the Associate Athletic Director for Physical Education & Campus Recreation for 23 years. He was responsible for all non-varsity Athletics at Princeton which included Physical Education, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Informal Recreation and Recreational facility usage. He was connected to the Varsity Golf Programs for 17 years and served as the Men's Head Coach from 1988-1995 and started the Women's Team and served as the Head Coach form 1991-2005. His teams won 9 Ivy League Titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. A Past President of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), Stein is also past Chairman of the NCAA District II Men's Golf Committee and was a member of the Women's NCAA Mid-East/Atlantic District Committee. Before coming to Princeton, Stein served as the Director of Intramural and Recreational Sports at the University of South Carolina as well as the Campus Recreation Director at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Stein received his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the University of Evansville and his Master's degree in Physical Education from the University of Illinois. Eric and his wife Robyn live in nearby Mountain View with their daughter Elyssa and have 2 older sons in Ryan and Matt. |
