The task of Stanford's Athletic Communications and Media Relations Department is to enhance the brand of Stanford's intercollegiate athletic program on the local and national level by providing publicity material and assist in the promotion of the university's 36 intercollegiate athletic teams and student-athletes to a wide variety of publics, including media, alumni, fans, parents, the general public and University personnel.

In addition to serving as the main public relations division of Stanford Athletics, some of the chief duties of the Athletic Communications and Media Relations Department include but are not limited to facilitating requests from various media outlets interested in pursuing stories on Stanford's student-athletes and teams; writing and editing various athletic publications; staffing athletic events; producing press releases; maintaining statistical and historical archives; managing the department's photography needs; producing editorial and video content for the athletics department official website, GoStanford.com; and promoting Stanford student-athletes for various conference and national awards.

The department also works collaboratively with all divisions of Stanford's intercollegiate athletics program, particularly in the areas of marketing, tickets and community relations, to advance an integrated public relations platform that reflects positively on the impeccable image of the University in general.

The Athletic Communications and Media Relations Department is staffed by seven full-time professionals who have extensive experience in the field of media relations and sports information. The staff strives to represent Stanford Athletics and the University to its many publics by creating a positive, friendly, cooperative, service-orientated and professional environment for the many customers it serves on a daily basis.
