In Terre Haute, Ind., the Cardinal team captured its third consecutive NCAA Championship, to close the 44-year coaching career of Peter Tegen, the 2007 NCAA and Pac-10 Coach of the Year. Stanford earned 145 points through Arianna Lambie (ninth, 20:18.2 over the 6,000-meter course), Lauren Centrowitz (31st, 20:59.3), Katie Harrington (40th, 21:06.5), Alex Gits (53rd, 21:12.4), and Teresa McWalters (62nd, 21:16.0), who managed to finish after collapsing near the end. Stanford won every major race, including its 12th consecutive Pac-10 championship and ninth straight NCAA West Regional title with McWalters (19:57.30) winning the individual crown. Lambie earned her third consecutive individual title in the conference championship, becoming the second runner to do so. As three-time Pac-10 Athlete of the Year, Lambie completed her collegiate career by winning the national title in the four seasons she competed. In addition to all the accomplishments of this year, the team was named the 2007 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Cross Country Team of the Year, after earning a cumulative grade-point average of 3.47.

For the second consecutive year, the Cardinal women won the 2006 NCAA Cross Country Championship under Coach of the Year Peter Tegen in Terre Haute, Ind. Arianna Lambie (20:43.8 for 6,000 meters) led the pack with a fourth-place finish that helped the team earn 195 points in the final race. The team won its eighth consecutive NCAA West Regional Championship, during which Stanford earned three of the top four places: Lambie (first, 20:58.8); Katy Trotter (second, 21:12.1); and Amanda Trotter (fourth, 21:16.8). The Pac-10 Championship was no different and the Cardinal claimed its 11th straight victory, with Stanford capturing the top four spots, with Lambie (20:15.09) followed by Katy Trotter (20:18.31), Amanda Trotter (20:18.37), and Teresa McWalters (20:25.03). Lambie won the individual regional and conference championships for the second consecutive year.

After winning in 2003 and finishing fifth in 2004, the Cardinal regained the national title in 2005, in Terre Haute, Ind. The No. 2-ranked team totaled 146 points, with three runners placing among the top 25: Arianna Lambie (eighth, 19:59.1 for 6,000 meters), Katy Trotter (20th, 20:18.4), and Lindsay Flacks (25th, 20:24.6). The Cardinal won its 10th consecutive Pac-10 championship and the seventh consecutive NCAA West Regional title. Pac-10 Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year Lambie captured the individual title in both events. Head coach Peter Tegen led the team in his first year at Stanford, was named Coach of the Year, and was recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the outstanding NCAA Division I women's cross country coach of the past 25 years for his career at Wisconsin and Stanford.

Stanford captured the 2003 NCAA title in Waterloo, Iowa, after a close second-place finish in 2002. The No. 2-ranked Cardinal scored 120 points after a third place by junior Sara Bei (19:49.1 for 6,000 meters) and a sixth by junior Alicia Craig (19:55.00). Freshmen Katy Trotter (21st, 20:29.4), Arianna Lambie (24th, 20:31.6), and Amanda Trotter (92nd, 21:12.4) contributed to the winning score. Bei, Katy Trotter, and Lambie were honored as first-time All-Americans, while Alicia Craig earned her third such honor. Stanford also earned its eighth consecutive Pac-10 championship and fifth consecutive NCAA West Regional title. Bei won the Pac-10 crown for the second consecutive year, with Craig winning the regional for the second time in her career. Both the Stanford women's and men's teams won titles for the second time in school and NCAA history, after accomplishing the feat in 1996. This was the first season for head coach Dena Evans, who earned the NCAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

The Cardinal captured the school's first women's title in cross country, edging powerhouse Villanova, 101-106, in Tucson, Ariz. Monal Chokshi led Stanford, covering the 5,100-meter course in 17:58 to place 10th overall. Stanford's second and third runners, Jessica Fry (18:05) and Mary Cobb (18:06), placed 16th and 17th, with Leila Burr in 42nd and Sara Moore in 55th. Combined with the men's NCAA title, it was the first time a school had swept the national titles in cross country since Wisconsin in 1985.
