One of the most dominating pitchers in Stanford history, Vance went 17-3 with a 1.70 ERA, with 179 strikeouts over 163.2 innings in his only two seasons in 1967 and 1968. He pitched the Indians into the 1967 College World Series, going a perfect 11-0 with a 1.53 ERA. He struck out 94 in 86.1 innings as opponents managed just a .165 average against him as Stanford finished the season with a school-record 36 wins. In 1968 he went 6-3 with a 1.86 ERA tallying 85 strikeouts over 77.1 innings, signing with the Dodgers after his junior year. Forced out of baseball due to arm injuries, he won seven games in 1970 for the Dodgers.
