| Ray Young coached Stanford from 1968 to 1976 compiling a record of 326-161-3 (.688) over nine seasons. Prior to leading the Indians, he was one of the team's greatest right-handed pitchers, spending seven years as the freshman coach under Dutch Fehrning, going 124-27-2. He is one of just four Stanford coaches with over 250 varsity wins, joining his former assistant, Mark Marquess, and surpassing Dutch Fehring who proceeded him with 290 wins over 12 seasons, and Harry Wolter who won 277 games in the first half of the 20th Century. Over eight seasons, Young's teams won at least 30 games and six times it finished second in the Pac-8 Conference. Eight of his players, including Bob Boone, went onto play in the Majors. | |||||||||||
