Tomsic was a three-time All-PCC selection (1952, 1953, 1955). In 87 career contests from 1952-55, he averaged 16.3 points per game and had 1,416 total points, ranking 15th all-time in the Stanford record books and holding the school's career scoring record from 1955-1964. Tomsic led the Cardinal in scoring twice, averaging 19.1 points per game in 1952-53 and 19.3 points per game in 1954-55. In his collegiate career, he missed his junior season due to a knee injury. After Stanford, Tomsic became a member of the USA Basketball Team that captured the gold medal at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia and was the 11th-round draft choice by the Syracuse Nationals in 1955, but opted to play in the AAU's National Industrial Basketball League (NIBL).
