| Norm Manoogian was a standout two-way player on the Stanford teams of the early 1950's, earning All-Coast honors in 1951 and 1953. As a sophomore, he helped pave the way for a running game that featured Olympic decathlon champion Bob Mathias. Stanford won the Pacific Coast Conference title in 1951, only to lose to Illinois in the Rose Bowl. Manoogian suffered a serious knee injury early in the 1952 season, but bounced back to earn All-Coast honors as a senior in 1953, serving as the team's captain. An upset victory of Rose Bowl-bound UCLA highlighted the Indians 6-3-1 campaign in 1953. | |||||||||||
