| Stanford’s second Triple Crown winner, John Whitlinger captured the NCAA singles, doubles and team titles in 1974, just one year after Alex Mayer became the first Cardinal player to accomplish the feat. Whitlinger won one doubles title in his brief professional career, returning to the Farm as an assistant in 1987 and coaching Stanford to nine NCAA team titles since. After Dick Gould retired as the Cardinal’s head coach in 2004, Whitlinger took over for the man who once recruited him, and has taken Stanford to the NCAA Quarterfinals twice while reaching the 20-win plateau on several occasions. | |||||||||||
