| Local product Jim Gaughran, a graduate of nearby Menlo-Atherton High School, twice earned All-Pac-8 recognition (1952-53) and captained the 1953 Stanford men’s water polo squad. Following his collegiate career, Gaughran earned a place on the 1956 U.S. Olympic Men’s Water Polo Team which participated at the Melbourne Games, finishing fifth in the tournament. Gaughran would go on to be inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 1979. | |||||||||
