| Hugh Gallerneau scored two touchdowns from his halfback position in the innovative T-formation scheme that led the “Wow Boys” to a Rose Bowl victory over Nebraska to cap an unbeaten season in 1940. The 1940 first team All-American selection teamed with Stanford legends Frankie Albert, Norm Standlee and Pete Kmetovic under the leadership of Coach Clark Shaughnessy. A two-time letterman in 1938 and ’39, Gallarneau was known for his ball carrying and blocking ability. A tough, physical player Gallarneau also lettered I boxing and rugby on The Farm. A third round selection in the 1941 NFL Draft, Gallarneau played five seasons in the NFL and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1982. | |||||||||
