| Coached at Stanford from 1939-51, chalking up a 167-120 overall record in 11 seasons; guided the Cardinal to a 28-4 record and the 1942 NCAA championship ;at the helm for two 20-win seasons overall, also compiling a 21-5 record in 1940-41; inducted into both the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the College Baseball Hall of Fame; in 1950, was also named baseball coach and held both posts for two seasons; only coach in NCAA history to win a College World Series baseball game and NCAA Tournament basketball game for the same school, accomplishing the feat in 1953; wrote two books in the 1940's, "Indiana Basketball" and "Progressive Basketball".. In six seasons as a baseball coach, he was 125-83-4 (.599) from 1950 to 1955, winning the conference titles in 1951 and 1953. | |||||||||||
