| A fourth generation Californian and San Francisco native, he attended St. Ignatius High before heading to Stanford and setting three world records in the breaststroke. As a 20 year old in 1943, the Stanford junior broke two world records in the breast against the College of the Pacific, swimming in 2:19 in the 200-yard event , breaking a four-year old mark and 2:33.7 in the 200-meter event, breaking a seven-year old mark. A veteran of World War II he was wounded in Okinawa as a member of the Marines and as a first lieutenant. He is also a member of the Swimming Hall of Fame as well. Cashin was prominent in real estate in the Bay Area for nearly a half a century during the area's post-war growth. He passed away at 75 in 1997. | |||||||||||
