Ernie Caddel played halfback for Glenn “Pop” Warner on The Farm between 1930 and 1932. Originally enrolling at Stanford on a baseball scholarship, he had never played football before being recruited by Warner who noticed his athletic ability. Caddel gained national recognition in 1931 when he ran for three touchdowns, two on long runs, in a 32-6 victory over Dartmouth. After breaking two ribs in 1932 he used the first flack jacket worn by a running back. Caddel played six seasons in the NFL from 1933-1938.
