“Fletch” captained the national championship water polo team in 1924 and was an All-American swimmer in 1922, 1923 and 1924. He set a U.S. And unofficial world record in the 200 meter and 220 yard breaststroke in 1923 with a time of 3:03.2, bettering that time later, but absent an official timer, the mark wasn't recognized. He went on to study at Oxford, competing in the 1924 Olympics, opening the Home Federal Savigns and Loan in San Diego in 1934 and later being elected to congress in 1946.
