Born in Los Angeles in 1903, Richardson finished fifth at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris in the 800-meter race as a 20-year old middle-distance runner. In his only Olympics, Richardson twice finished second in the semifinals of the 800-meter prior to the finals. Running for Stanford in 1925, he was the national runner-up in the 880-yard race at the NCAA Championships.
