Brandon Marcello was hired by Stanford University in December 2007 as the Director of Sports Performance. Marcello coordinates and oversees all athletic performance enhancement programs for Stanford's 36 varsity sports teams. Acting as the chief administrator for the Sports Performance department, Marcello's responsibilities include, but aren't limited to, budget oversight, facility design and equipment layout, nutritional strategies, staff development, and to direct methodology. Marcello also works to develop sport specific strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, nutrition, and recovery programs for the Stanford's Women's Softball and Women's Water Polo programs.
Prior to his current position, Marcello served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for USA Softball from 2005 to 2008. In this position, Marcello developed and implemented sport-specific strength, speed, and conditioning programs for the USA Women's Olympic Softball Team throughout the Olympic quadrennial, oversaw all aspects of athletic development, collaborated with other members of the Performance Enhancement Team with respects to international team travel and performance, and conducted research including the latest concepts in performance enhancement.
Before working for USA Softball, Marcello served as the Doctoral Research Associate and Speed and Conditioning Coach at Baylor University from 2003 through 2007. At Baylor, Marcello worked to develop and implement sport-specific speed and conditioning programs for the Baylor Women's Softball Team, as well assist in the data collection, analysis, and presentation of various research studies including sport supplementation, exercise protocols, and strength training methodologies. Marcello also served as the department liaison, coordinating exercise testing and nutritional consulting with teams/athletes at Baylor. Marcello succeeded in developing a sports nutrition curriculum and training table for all Baylor University athletes. Marcello was the study coordinator for various strength training, biomechanics, and sport supplementation research.
From 1999 to 2003, Marcello served as the Associate Director for Athletes' Performance. Marcello was a key player in the development of the country's premier performance enhancement company. Marcello helped to architect the design and build of the Athletes' Performance Facility, secure funds to build the facility, select and order equipment, hire and evaluate all staff members, allocate funds and manage company's operating budget, develop the company's policies and procedures, and develop the company's brand and marketing strategies.
In 2000, Marcello also served on the USA Swimming and Diving Medical Staff. He assisted in the prevention of injuries for all athletes participating in the 2000 Olympic Trials.
Prior to developing Athletes' Performance, Marcello served as the Performance Specialist at the International Performance Institute at IMG Academies from 1996-1999. As the Performance Specialist, Marcello trained professional, collegiate, amateur, and Olympic athletes in areas of strength, speed, power, nutrition, agility, flexibility, and movement specific for their sport. Marcello was responsible for hiring interns as well as intern orientation, education, and delegation of duties. Marcello also helped to conduct research concerning the latest concepts in performance enhancement.
A native of Warwick, Rhode Island, Marcello graduated from Marshall University in 1994 with a bachelor in Exercise Science. Marcello went on to earn a master's in Exercise Physiology from Marshall and a PhD in Sports Nutrition from Baylor University.
