Gabi Ailes Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

muscle milk picSTANFORD, Calif. - Senior libero Gabi Ailes has been named the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Cardinal defense in two Pac-10 Conference wins at Washington State and No. 11 Washington last weekend. She averaged 5.38 digs and 1.63 assists in the two matches.

Ailes made history on Friday night as she became the first Stanford player and just the seventh Pac-10 player to register 2,000 career digs. She tallied 16 in the win against Washington State and currently ranks seventh all-time in conference history. At Washington on Saturday, Ailes anchored the Stanford defense with a season high 27 kills in the four-set win for the Cardinal. The Bellevue, Neb., native also tallied a season-best eight assists in the win over the 11th-ranked Huskies.

This marks the first Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor for the senior.

Up next, Stanford travels to Bay Area rival, No. 4 California, with first place in the Pac-10 on the line. The Cardinal and Golden Bears will square off on Friday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in Haas Pavilion.
