STANFORD, Calif. -Alex Bowen of the Stanford men's water polo team was named the Muscle Milk Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2. It is the first selection in Bowen's career and the first for the Stanford men's water polo team in 2011.

Over the weekend Bowen scored 11 goals in helping lead the fourth-ranked Cardinal (7-2) to its first SoCal Tournament title since 2002. The freshman from San Diego scored six goals, including the tournament-winner with 42 seconds remaining, in Stanford's 10-9 overtime title-game victory over No. 3 California. Earlier in the day, the Cardinal upset No. 1 USC, 6-4, to reach the final.

On the year, Bowen leads the Cardinal with 19 goals. Stanford opens up its 2011 home slate this Friday night, Oct. 7, with a 7 p.m. game against Pepperdine.
