Sept. 18, 2012
STANFORD, Calif. - Stepfan Taylor of the football team has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for September 10 - September 16.
This is the third career honor for Taylor (Oct. 24, 2011; Oct. 25, 2010) and the second this season for a football player (Usua Amanam - Sept. 4).
Taylor recorded 213 all-purpose yards (153 rushing, 60 receiving) and two touchdowns to lead Stanford to an epic 21-14 victory over longtime rival and No. 2-ranked USC on Saturday. Twice the Cardinal trailed the Trojans in the game, and each time Taylor answered: a 59-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and 23-yard screen pass reception touchdown.
Of his 27 carries Saturday night, Taylor had no rushes for a loss. His 153 rushing yards tied his second-highest career game (at Arizona - Sept. 17, 2011) and trailed only his 177 yards in the 2012 Fiesta Bowl. The senior running back on his 59-yard scoring scamper broke through the career 3,000-yard rushing mark. Today Taylor stands at 3,108 yards in his Stanford career, third all-time and 414 yards behind second-place Toby Gerhart.
A Science, Technology and Society major with a focus in Information Science & Technology in Society, Taylor is scheduled to graduate with his Stanford degree after the spring quarter. Taylor came to Stanford from Mansfield (Tex.) High School, where he set a school-record with 4,792 career rushing yards and 67 rushing touchdowns in three years.
Taylor and the football team play next on the road Thursday Sept. 27 at CenturyLink Field versus the Washington Huskies at 6:00 pm PT. The game is televised nationally on ESPN.
