June 20, 2012

STANFORD, Calif.-- The latest APR figures came out from the NCAA, and Stanford Athletics had seven teams achieve a perfect 1000 four-year average and 17 sports lead their respective conference in the APR.

The latest four-year APR across Division-I is 973, as 27 of Stanford's 29 teams achieved that average. Teams with a perfect score through the 2010-11 academic year were: men's golf for the fourth-straight year, men's water polo and women's cross country for the third-straight year, men's tennis for the second-straight year and third time in the last seven years, men's volleyball for the third time, and baseball and men's cross country for the first time.

Along with the above teams, men's basketball (989), women's basketball (996), football (977), lacrosse (995), men's soccer (994), men's swimming (991), men's track (994), women's track (991), women's volleyball (995) and wrestling (987) led either the Pac-12 or Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in APR.

With the national average continuing to rise, sports such as men's basketball (national average of 950), football (948) and baseball (965) have been a focal point for the NCAA. Stanford  football (977), men's basketball (989) and baseball (1000) are well above the national average and have never been below it.

Last week, baseball, men's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, men's volleyball, men's water polo, wrestling, women's basketball and women's cross country received public recognition awards for being in the top 10-percent in their sports for 2010-11.

From the NCAA, every Division-I sports team calculates its APR each academic year, based on the eligibility and retention of each scholarship student-athlete. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can face sanctions, such as scholarship losses and restrictions on practice. Rates are based on the past four years’ performance.
