June 1, 2012 - Mark Appel Silences The Bulldogs In NCAA Regional Opener
Story
In the opening game of the NCAA Regional at Klein Field, Stanford sent ace Mark Appel to the mound to face the Fresno State Bulldogs, and he lived up to the billing. Appel recorded his fifth complete game of the season, giving up just one run on four hits and striking out 11 Fresno State batters as the Cardinal cruised to a 9-1 win en route to the regional title.
April 29, 2012 - Chris Derrick Breaks American Collegiate Record In the 10,000 Meters At The Payton Jordan Invitational
Story
The Payton Jordan Invitational always brings out the best in the participating athletes, and the 10,000-meter race demonstrated that in 2012. Stanford senior Chris Derrick broke the American collegiate record by finishing the race in a time of 27:31.38, breaking the record previously held by Galen Rupp by just over two seconds and setting the new Stanford record by a whopping 28 seconds. Derrick also became just the second Cardinal runner to break 28 minutes in the 10K, joining Ian Dobson, who ran it in 27:59.72 in 2005.
May 28, 2012 - Nicole Gibbs Claims NCAA Singles, Doubles Titles On Same Day
Story
Nicole Gibbs of the women's tennis team became only the third player in NCAA history to capture both national titles (singles and doubles) in the same season. Gibbs defeated teammate Mallory Burdette 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the singles final, then teamed with Burdette later in the day to capture the doubles crown with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Georgia's Nadja Gilchrist and Chelsey Gullickson. It was the first time in NCAA men's or women's tennis history that teammates squared off in the singles final before later pairing up in the doubles title match.
October 30, 2011 - Andrew Luck Rebounds To Lead Stanford Past USC, 56-48 In Three Overtimes
Story
Quarterback Andrew Luck completed 29 of 40 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another in Stanford's 56-48 triple overtime victory over USC at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Luck bounced back after USC's Nickell Robey returned an interception 33 yards to put the Trojans in front with 3:08 to play. Luck immediately engineered a 76-yard drive capped by Stepfan Taylor's tying TD with 38 seconds left. Both teams scored in the first two overtimes, and, with the ball first in the third overtime, Taylor rushed for the go-ahead score and Luck capped it with a two-point conversion pass to Coby Fleener, accounting for the final points of Stanford's thrilling 56-48 win.
March 22-24, 2012 - David Nolan Records 60 Points At NCAA Men's Swimming Championships

Freshman David Nolan played a key role in Stanford Men's Swimming's third-place national finish in March, accounting for 60 of the Cardinal's points at the NCAA Championships. He earned seven All-America honors with seven top-five finishes. he finished as runner-up in the 100 and 200 Backs, third in the 200 IM, fourth in the 400 Medley Relay and fifth in the 200 and 400 Free Relays and the 200 Medley Relay.
