Join Stanford Athletics on Facebook!

STANFORD, Calif. - As another memorable athletic year comes to a close on The Farm, Stanford Athletics is once again giving Cardinal fans the chance to select the best performers, games and moments of 2011-12 with the Second Annual Stanford Fan Choice Awards on the Stanford Athletics Facebook page all next week (June 18-22).

While athletes from all 35 sports are honored at national award functions, team banquets, and the Stanford Athletic Board Awards luncheon, among other events, Stanford Athletics wants to give its fans a say in the matter all through next week, June 18-22, on the Stanford Athletics Facebook page.

Fans will have the opportunity to vote for award winners in the following categories: Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Performance of the Year, and Game of the Year.

The Stanford Athletics Communications team has selected the nominees for each category. One category and its nominees will be released per day for fans to begin voting, beginning with the nominees for Male Athlete of the Year on Monday, June 18.

Voting will take place on the Stanford Athletics Facebook page all week, beginning at 9 a.m. PT Monday with the release of the Male Athlete of the Year category, and lasting through 8 p.m. PT Sunday, June 24. The winners will be named in a release on www.gostanford.com on Monday morning, June 25.

The 2011-12 season featured three Cardinal programs claiming national titles (women's soccer, women's water polo, women's lightweight rowing), second straight BCS bowl appearance for Stanford Football, a fifth straight trip to the Final Four for women's basketball, respectively, and numerous All-America efforts from Cardinal student-athletes.

So begin looking back on the 2011-12 season and recalling your favorite athletes, performances and games, and make your voices heard for the best of 2011-12! Mark Monday, June 18 down on your calendar as the start of voting and be sure to participate every day!
