STANFORD, Calif. -- -
Ten Stanford athletic programs have been honored by the NCAA with Public Recognition Awards based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR).
These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport and are based on the most recent APR numbers that represent a combination of scores over a four-year period beginning in 2007-08.
The 10 Stanford programs receiving NCAA Public Recognition Awards were baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, men's volleyball, men's water polo and wrestling.
More than 950 NCAA Division I sports were honored by the NCAA with Public Recognition Awards. Top performing APR's this year ranked from 978 to a perfect 1,000. Full APR's for all teams will be released on June 20.
This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
