Anthony Kimble -- Chat Wrap

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford junior running back Anthony Kimble answered your questions when he hit the gostanford.com chat room this Wednesday, August 30 (1:30 pm, PT) to begin a series of online chats with Cardinal football players throughout the 2006 campaign.

Kimble was Stanford's second-leading rusher with 244 yards on the ground in his first season as a collegiate running back last year, while adding 14 catches for 145 yards. He had four touchdowns with two rushing and two receiving scores each. Kimble had come into Stanford prior to his 2004 redshirt season as one of the nation's most highly sought-after prep receivers but was converted to running back in the spring of 2005. He started the team's first six games in the backfield a year ago before an injury caused him to miss two contests before limiting him over the squad's final three games in 2005. Kimble has returned to the top of the depth chart this season and is expected to open the season as the club's starter.

Stanford opens the 2006 season at No. 20 Oregon this Saturday, September 2 (12:30 pm, PT). The game will be telecast live to nearly one-third of the country on ABC, while the Stanford radio broadcast featuring Bob Murphy and Tim Roye can be heard live on KNBR 1050 AM.

Stanford is coming off a 5-6 overall finish in 2005 and a 4-4 mark in the Pac-10 to finish tied for fourth in the conference last season. Oregon was 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the Pac-10 a year ago, finishing second to USC in the conference standings before falling 17-14 to Oklahoma in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl.

Getting To Know Anthony

Anthony Kimble: I'm here and ready to answer your questions

Shelby (Manteca, CA): Anthony, it seems that you never have a quiet offseason. Last year you shocked us all by winning the running back job in the fall, and this year, you worried us with your skin infection. You and Nick Frank make an interesting and unlikely duo in the backfield, considering the positions you started at. How hard was it to change from a wide reciever to a running back, and has a year of experience made you a smarter, more aware running back?
Anthony Kimble: I didn't think it was hard at all switching from wide out to running back due to the fact I had played running back in high school. But playing running back in college is a lot different and I'm still learning a lot about the position. Experience always helps and this year I'm going into the season knowing alot more about the position.

Ken (Los Gatos, Ca.): I enjoyed reading your profile and the getting to know Anthony Kimble article. As a Grandfather myself, I hope and pray that someday you will be able to meet your Grandfather. I admire you as a person/student athlete! Will the team continue the traditional pregame "walk" to the stadium?
Anthony Kimble: As far as I know we will continue the tradition and thanks for the comment about my Grandpa.

Derek (San Francisco): Hey Anthony: What are you most looking forward to in the new season, and how did you spend your time off? Really looking forward to seeing this team in action - especially in the new digs. Good luck and GO CARDINAL!
Anthony Kimble: I am looking forward to winning football games. I spent my time off mostly getting ready for this season through workouts with my teammates and watching film. But I also found some time to just hang out with the guys.

John (Los Gatos): For you how many yards will be a great season rushing and will you be used as a part of the air attack this season?
Anthony Kimble: I don't really have any set number of yards but mostly whatever it takes to put this team in a position to win football games. In this offense the backs are a vital part of the passing attack, so I guess that is a yes.

Tim (Palo Alto, CA): Do you feel like you're totally coverted to a running back now and what has the transition been like going from wide receiver to running back?
Anthony Kimble: Yes, I do feel I am totally a running back now and the transition has been good but I feel like I'm learning new things everyday that are helping me become a better back.

Sandy (Menlo Park, CA): What do you think the new stadium will be like are are you looking forward to playing in it this year?
Anthony Kimble: I'm very excited about the new stadium and I feel we will finally have that home field advantage that other schools have.

Ken (Los Angeles, CA): Anthony, What's it like to play with talented guys like Trent Edwards and Nick Frank in the same backfield as you?
Anthony Kimble: It's great to play with guys like Trent and Nick. It takes a lot of pressure off of me and the rest of the offense because you know those guys are always going to do what it takes to put this team in a position to win.

Suzie (Santa Rosa): What is the one thing you and your team needs to focus on most to be successful in 2006?
Anthony Kimble: I think the biggest thing is execution.

Tom (Burlingame): Anthony: What can you tell us fans about some of the young players on the team. Who do you think will emerge as a top player this season among the young players?
Anthony Kimble: We have a lot of young guys who are going to have to step up and perform at a high level this year, especially on defense. The two young guys that I am really looking forward to seeing on the field this year are Ekom and Synder.

John (Los Angeles): Anthony: It must be very exciting to finally get the season started. How do you feel about starting the season at Oregon, a very tough place to play.
Anthony Kimble: I am really looking forward to playing at Autzen. This big game right off back gave the team a lot to work for and look forward to in the off-season.

Aaron phx: Are you happy with your rating for NCAA Football?
Anthony Kimble: Yes, they really took care of me with the speed ratings...

Fred (Oakland): Hey Anthony: I really think the Stanford offense will score a lot of points this year... but I've read that the Stanford defense may give up some points. Do you think the offense must score, say 40 points a game, to give Stanford a chance to win?
Anthony Kimble: Everyone seems to be underestimating our defense but I think they will really surprise some people this year.

Frank (Menlo Park, CA): Anthony: Good luck this season. Do you think the new Stadium will help the team play better at home? I've been to games at Stanford where the crowd is very quiet. Does this effect players?
Anthony Kimble: I think the new enviroment that the new stadium will provide will help the team because having a home field advantage does help.

Bootsy (Texas): Anthony: how do you find the time to both brush your waves into your hair AND taper your sideburns with ever-so-much precision?
Anthony Kimble: Time and commitment....

Aaron Phoenix: Which school has the ugliest cheerleaders in the Pac-10?
Anthony Kimble: Never really get a chance to take a look...To focused on the game

Marie (Saratoga): Anthony: I think Stanford is very underrated this season. What do you think of the pre-season rankings picking Stanford to finish 9th in the Pac-10?
Anthony Kimble: I think that gives us more motivation because everyone is picking us to be at the bottom of the conference.

Aaron PHX: Who is the funniest guy on the team? Who are your roomies? Are they on the team?
Anthony Kimble: The funniest guy on the team by far is Jason Evans. He never shuts up. My roomies are Fletch, McFall, and Muth.
Anthony Kimble: Thanks for the questions... got to get to practice to get ready for Oregon...I know you all will be cheering us on....GO STANFORD!!!
