STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford rising junior Maddie Secco was named to the Canadian Women’s National Team for the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as announced by Field Hockey Canada and Commonwealth Games Canada.
Secco, a Victory, British Columbia native, was one of 16 players selected to compete with Team Canada at the tournament July 23-Aug. 3. She has made 31 appearances with the national team and helped Team Canada win a bronze medal at the 2013 Pan American Cup.
“This is my first major games that I will be participating in and I can't wait to play top level teams, be a part of the excitement in the athlete's village, and of course, represent my home country,” said Secco. “It has always been my dream to play for Team Canada.”
Secco had a strong sophomore season with the Cardinal, registering 12 points on three goals and six assists in 18 games. She tied for the second-most game-winning goals among Stanford players with two.
