Stanford sophomore goalie Gabby Stone was named the MPSF/KAP 7 Player of the Week Monday after her career day in the third-ranked Cardinal’s 9-5 victory over top-ranked USC Sunday at Avery Aquatic Center.

Stone made a career-high 13 saves and anchored a stellar Cardinal defensive effort in the win. Stanford held USC, which entered the game as the MPSF’s top offense with 15.9 goals per game, to a season-low five goals. Stone and the Cardinal back line held USC scoreless over a stretch of 7:33 over both ends of halftime, during which the offense reeled off six straight goals to turn a 3-2 deficit into a commanding 8-3 lead.

Last Monday, Stone also made five saves and allowed just one goal in the first half of Stanford’s 12-6 win at No. 20 San Diego State. On the year, she is third in the MPSF with a 6.34 goals-against average.

The honor is first of Stone’s career, and the fourth for the Cardinal this season. Kiley Neushul earned the honor on Feb. 3, Annika Dries brought it home Feb. 17 and Maggie Steffens was recognized on March 3.

Stanford (16-1, 2-0 MPSF) hosts MPSF foe Arizona State this Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. at Avery Aquatic Center.
