Stanford women's water polo will channel its inner-Ernie Banks Saturday afternoon in Fresno, playing a twinbill against Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m. and host Fresno Pacific at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday's doubleheader will be the third-ranked Cardinal's (11-1, 1-0 MPSF) final action before a two-week break for final exams. Stanford returns to action March 23 at UC San Diego.
The Cardinal won its MPSF opener last Saturday, defeating No. 10 San Jose State 16-9 on the road. Sophomore driver Maggie Steffens was named MPSF/KAP 7 Player of the Week for her five-goal performance in the win.
Senior two-meter Annika Dries scored three goals in the win for her team-leading fifth hat trick of the season, and leads the team with 25 goals through 12 games.
Loyola Marymount (8-5) had a three-game winning streak snapped last Saturday in a 14-6 loss to No. 2 UCLA. The Lions are led by the scoring of Alexandra Honny (11 goals) and Ivana Castro (nine) while in goal Claire Wright has made 44 saves.
Fresno Pacific (5-10) enters Saturday on a two-game winning streak, having defeated La Verne and Chapman last Saturday. The Sunbirds will play Loyola Marymount at 9 a.m. Saturday prior to facing the Cardinal in the afternoon.
