Third-ranked Stanford aims to rebuild its momentum this weekend after suffering its first setback of the campaign at the UCI Invitational Sunday in Irvine. The Cardinal stays local, visiting No. 10 San Jose State Saturday for a noon matchup which doubles as the Cardinal's MPSF opener.

Stanford (10-1) finished third at the UCI Invitational last weekend in Irvine. The Cardinal fell 9-6 to UCLA in Sunday morning's semifinal round, but came back in the afternoon to claim a 14-8 victory over California to take third at the event.

Senior driver Kaley Dodson and junior two-meter Ashley Grossman led the Cardinal in Irvine with eight goals apiece over the four contests. On the year, Grossman's 21 goals are second-best on the team, just one behind the 22 of senior two-meter Annika Dries. Dodson has 11 goals on the year.

In goal sophomore Gabby Stone went the distance in the final three games of the weekend, averaging 8.00 saves with a high of 11 in the third-place game against California.

San Jose State (13-7) was also in Irvine last weekend, finishing 10th after defeating No. 6 Hawai'i and falling to No. 8 Loyola Marymount Sunday. The Spartans are led by the scoring of Clara Espar Llaquet (60 goals) and Rae Lekness (52), while in the cage Maddie Reardon has made 122 saves with an 8.94 goals-against average.

Following Saturday's contest, the Cardinal will play a doubleheader in Fresno against Loyola Marymount and Fresno Pacific on March 8 before going on a two-week break for final exams.
