Stanford women's water polo will have five representatives on the USA Water Polo Women's Senior National Team with current Cardinal student-athletes Annika Dries, Kiley Neushul and Maggie Steffens joining Lolo Silver '09 and Melissa Seidemann '13 competing at the 2013 FINA World Championships.
The USA's tournament begins July 21 against Greece. The team then meets Canada and Great Britain to close out group play. The United States finished sixth at the last World Championships in 2011. Team USA has won three FINA World Championships (2003, 2007, 2009).
The 13 athletes selected to the team feature eight returners from the team that won gold at the 2012 Olympic Games including Dries, Seidemann and Steffens. The rest of the team showcases established veterans with National Team experience alongside up and comers from the college game.
Recently, Team USA took home bronze from the FINA World League Super Final and then followed that with a second place finish at the Dutch Trophy last week.
