STANFORD, Calif. – A total of 14 Stanford varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA, in an announcement made Wednesday. It is the highest total for Cardinal teams since the NCAA began tracking the data in 2004-05, surpassing last year’s number of 13.

These 14 teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. Stanford produced nearly half of the Pac-12 Conference total with the other 11 institutions combining for 17 awards.

Cardinal programs to receive the Public Recognition Awards are: baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, football, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s soccer, softball, men’s tennis, men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, men’s water polo, women’s water polo and wrestling.

While Stanford boasts four straight Bowl Championship Series appearances on the field, the Cardinal football program was also in elite company in the classroom, where it was one of just 13 FBS football schools to earn public recognition. Stanford is the only Pac-12 representative in the sport.

In baseball, the Cardinal is among just 34 programs and one of three in the Pac-12 to earn recognition.

In men’s basketball, the Cardinal is among 40 programs to earn recognition and is the only Pac-12 selection. In women’s basketball, the Cardinal is one of just two Pac-12 representatives amidst 43 programs nationwide.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 977 to a perfect 1,000.

Stanford is one of 113 schools nationwide to earn at least one Public Recognition Awards all nine years of the program.

Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 14.
