THIS WEEK: The No. 8 Stanford men’s volleyball team (8-4, 5-4 MPSF) will play host to No. 4 BYU (8-3, 8-1 MPSF) on Saturday, Feb. 15. The Cardinal and Cougars will meet at 7 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks.

SCOUTING BYU: BYU enters the week holding on to the top spot in the MPSF standings with an 8-1 record (8-3 overall). The Cougars will play at Pacific on Friday before coming to The Farm. As a team, BYU is hitting .287, while posting 2.76 blocks and 1.40 aces per set. Senior outside hitter Taylor Sander leads the team with 4.33 kills and 1.50 digs per set. Sophomore outside hitter Matt Underwood adds 2.31 kills per set, while sophomore setter Tyler Heap is averaging 10.44 assists per set. BYU defeated the Cardinal in four sets on Jan. 24 at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION: Stanford senior opposite Eric Mochalski has been tabbed the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men’s National Player of the Week. He averaged 3.60 kills, 2.40 digs and 1.00 blocks per set while hitting .448 in sweeps over UC San Diego and No. 9 UC Irvine. It marks the 13th time a Stanford player has received the honor, and the first since Brad Lawson during the 2012 campaign.
IN THE POLL: Stanford fell to No. 8 in the latest AVCA Division I-II Men’s Coaches Poll despite sweeping two MPSF matches last week. The Cardinal is one of 10 MPSF teams ranked in the top 15 with eight appearing in the top 10.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS: As a team, Stanford ranks among the top-10 in the nation in hitting percentage (.325 - 5th), kills per set (13.12 - 8th), digs per set (9.40 - 7th), aces per set (1.57 - 7th) and assists per set (12.24 - 10th). Individually, setter James Shaw is eighth nationally with 10.45 assists per set. Senior Steven Irvin comes in at No. 19 with 3.52 kills per set and 24th with a .320 hitting percentage, while redshirt junior Grant Delgado is 10th with 2.45 digs per set. Redshirt junior Daniel Tublin is 12th with 0.44 aces per set.
HEAD COACH JOHN KOSTY: Stanford head coach John Kosty is in his eighth season at the helm of the Cardinal program and his 24th overall on staff. He is 129-86 in his career and guided Stanford to the 2010 NCAA national championship. The Cardinal has produced a first team AVCA All-America selection in each of the past six seasons under Kosty.
