GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Stanford men's rowing's I Eight finished fourth in its semifinal at the IRA Championships Saturday at Lake Natoma and will now race in Sunday's Petite Final.

Sunday's Petite Final will get underway at 12:05 p.m. There, the I Eight will face off against Navy, Wisconsin, Yale, Cornell and Boston University.

"Our Varsity 8 raced with spirit and fight today. We were side by side with Washington, Cal and Princeton for 1,500 meters of fierce racing," said Stanford head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "We came up short today but the body of work by this eight deserves recognition and respect. Defeating Cal twice in two weeks was no fluke. We have positioned ourselves for success in 2014 and beyond. I am extremely proud of this group of men and our coxswain Nathalie Weiss."

Saturday's semifinal was a stacked one, with the Cardinal facing off against Pac-12 rivals Washington and California in addition to Princeton, Navy and Wisconsin. With the top three finishers advancing to Sunday's Grand Final, the boats were off to a furious start for position. Unfortunately for Stanford, it found itself on the outside looking in at the end of the 2,000-meter course, crossing in a time of 5:48.200, nearly 7.5 seconds back of winner Washington and four seconds behind third-place Princeton.

The II Eight, which was idle Saturday, will race in the Third Level Final at 10:04 a.m. Sunday.
