STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Austin Hack and rising senior Kaess Smit will each spend their summer going after a spot on the United States roster for the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam August 24-31.

For Hack he transitioned from college to training with the national team at the same location. He trained with the Stanford men’s rowing team at Princeton leading up to the IRA National Championships and will now return to the Ivy League school in New Jersey to train at the national team selection camp.

The Senior I World Championship Trials will take place on the same lake Hack competed at for IRA’s as the trials are held June 22-25 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.

Last summer Hack was the only collegiate rower in the senior national team’s eight that took bronze at the World Rowing Championships in Chungju, South Korea.

Smit will also be at Lake Mercer June 22-25 for the U.S. Under-23 World Championship trials. Leading up to the trials, Smit will train at the National Team Selection Camp at the California Rowing Club in Oakland, Calif.

Smit will be trying to make the Under-23 World Championship team for the second straight year. Last summer he raced with the U.S. four that earned a bronze medal at the Under-23 World Championships in Linz, Austria.
