The USA Water Polo Men's Senior National Team will close out its four-game series against Serbia this Sunday at Avery Aquatic Center, with four current Stanford standouts representing the America side.
Stanford fans will get the chance to see the Cardinal quartet of rising seniors Alex Bowen and Conner Cleary, along with rising junior Bret Bonanni and rising sophomore Jackson Kimbell playing for the USA in the contest. The four players were all part of the USA squad that captured the gold medal in the FINA Intercontinental Tournament final this past Sunday in Shanghai, China, and helped the USA qualify for the FINA World League Super Final in two weeks in Dubai.
This past fall the four Cardinal players helped lead Stanford to a third-place finish at the National Collegiate Championship as the program made its first appearance at the event since 2008. Bonanni, who scored an MPSF-record 97 goals, and Bowen, who was second on the team with 71 goals, were each named to the ACWPC All-America First Team. Cleary scored 21 goals while also serving as one of the Cardinal's top two-meter defenders throughout the season, and Kimbell, in his rookie campaign, led all first-year Cardinal players with 26 goals, a figure that was also good for fifth on the team.
The contest is set for a 3 p.m. start and tickets can be purchased by clicking here. Ticket prices are $20 when bought online prior to Sunday, and $25 at the door. VIP online pre-sale tickets are available for $100 while a VIP ticket purchased at the door will cost $125.
The USA-Serbia series runs from June 4-8 in Northern California, with Wednesday's opener taking place at 7 p.m. at Pacific's Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton. The teams will then play Thursday, June 5 at UC Davis and Saturday, June 7 in Berkeley before Sunday's finale at Avery.
