Freshman Jackson Kimbell scored four goals to pace 12 different Stanford goal scorers as the fourth-ranked Cardinal cruised to the 24-7 win at Chapman Saturday.
Stanford ran its winning streak to six and will aim to close the weekend 3-for-3 Sunday afternoon when it takes on No. 7 Long Beach State at noon in an MPSF contest.
In addition to Kimbell’s four goals Adam Abdulhamid and Paul Rudolph each posted hat tricks, Bret Bonanni, Alex Bowen, Reid Chase, Conner Cleary and Kyle Weikert scored twice apiece and single goals were scored by Griffin Bolan, Nick Hoversten, Adam Warmoth and Charlie Wiser.
Scott Platshon got the call in the cage Saturday and made nine saves in the contest.
The Cardinal scored six times in the first period and eight times in the second to race out to a 14-5 halftime lead. Kimbell opened the scoring just 1:09 into the game and Bowen and Cleary followed up over the next two minutes to give Stanford an early 3-0 lead. Brett Carter and Dor Apffel, however, sandwiched a goal by Chase to cut the Cardinal lead to two at 4-2 with 2:53 to play in the frame.
That was as close as the Panthers would get, though, as Hoversten and Abdulhamid netted goals minutes before the end of the period, making it 6-2. Carter would score the second of his four goals 55 seconds into the second frame but Kimbell and Rudolph scored twice apiece over the Cardinal’s 4-0 run which made it 10-3 4:28 before halftime. The Cardinal would go on to score four more times against just two for the Panthers to take a commanding nine-goal lead at the break.
Stanford would add five goals in each of the final two periods, ending the game with a two-goal run from Abdulhamid and Kimbell.
