Fourth-ranked Stanford men's water polo resumes MPSF play Sunday afternoon, hosting No. 9 Pepperdine in a 12 p.m. contest at Avery Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal (12-4, 1-1 MPSF) is riding a strong wave of momentum after last weekend's sweep which included an 8-6 victory over No. 2 UCLA on Homecoming Saturday. Stanford followed up the big win by defeating UC Davis 19-5 Sunday.

Freshman goalie Drew Holland was named MPSF KAP 7 Player of the Week Monday afternoon thanks to his strong defensive effort in the win over the Bruins. The Miramonte High product stopped 11 shots and anchored a Cardinal defense that held UCLA goalless over 11 6-on-5 chances.

Holland ranks third in the MPSF with a 7.08 goals-against average while the Cardinal defensive unit is third in the conference with 6.94 goals allowed per game.

Sophomore driver Bret Bonanni leads the Cardinal attack with 60 goals, and tops the MPSF with 3.75 goals per game, while junior utility Alex Bowen is ninth in the conference with 2.56 goals per game and second on the squad with 41 goals.

BJ Churnside (22 goals) and Forrest Watkins (21) have also reached the 20-goal mark for the Cardinal, which is fourth in the conference with 14.50 goals per game.

Pepperdine (8-7, 0-1 MPSF) has won four of its past five entering Sunday, most recently downing Air Force, 12-7, last Sunday. The Waves dropped their MPSF opener to UC Santa Barbara last Saturday.

Sunday's contest will feature the conference's top two scorers by average in Bonanni and Pepperdine's Luke Hewko (3.43 goals per game). Marko Madaras ranks 17th in the MPSF with 1.53 goals per game, while defensively goalie Bence Valics averages 10.96 saves a game for a defense that allows 9.07 goals per game, worst in the conference.
