Stanford men's water polo will have three representatives on the USA Water Polo Men's Senior National Team as veteran Tony Azevedo '05 along with newcomers Janson Wigo '10 and Alex Bowen '15 will compete at the 2013 FINA World Championships.
The tournament is set for July 22-Aug. 3 in Barcelona, with the U.S. opening group play against Croatia this Monday, July 22. The U.S. will also face Canada and South Africa in group play.
Azevedo, considered one of the top players in the world, will be participating in his seventh FINA World Championship and is one of five players on the 13-man roster to have competed at the 2012 Olympics in London. Wigo and Bowen will each be making their world championship debut after helping the USA to a fourth-place finish at the FINA World League Super Final last month.
For Bowen, who will enter his junior season with the Cardinal this fall, it is his fourth appearance with the Senior National Team in 2013. He helped the squad qualify for the world championship at the UANA World Championship Qualification Tournament in January and February, then participated in the FINA World League Prelims in May.
