Stanford men’s soccer had four student-athletes named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Seniors Ty Conklin, Drew Hutchins and JJ Koval along with redshirt sophomore Eric Verso were named to the 16-man team. District 8 encompasses universities on the West Coast of the United States.
The quartet now advances to the national ballot where they will vie for a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America Team.
Conklin sports a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average and is majoring in electrical engineering while on the field he contributes both ways as an outside back. On the backline he’s directed by Hutchins, who has posted three clean sheets and a goals-against average of 1.25 while in the classroom is working towards his degree in science, technology and society with a 3.38 GPA.
Koval, the team captain and a midfielder, has scored twice in 2013 while directing the Cardinal’s game plan from the center. The wearer of the captain’s armband this season, Koval has been an aerial playmaker for the Cardinal on the field while in the classroom sporting a 3.41 GPA while majoring in human biology.
Verso earned his first All-District honor Thursday. The forward from La Canada, Calif. has scored three goals on the season while in the classroom boasts a 3.33 GPA in his management science and engineering course load.
Stanford (7-4-2, 1-3-1 Pac-12) hosts No. 3 UCLA and San Diego State this Friday and Sunday, respectively, at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. Friday’s match against the third-ranked Bruins will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Bay Area.
