Stanford men's soccer, riding high on its first four-match winning streak since 2010, travels to the Southern California coast Friday for a 7 p.m. battle at UC Santa Barbara. Friday's match will be livestreamed at http://www.nscaatv.com.
The Cardinal (4-1-1) has given up just one goal during the streak and posted a pair of clean sheets last weekend, defeating College of Charleston (2-0) and Colgate (1-0). The superb defensive effort led to goalkeeper Drew Hutchins being named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career after making six saves over the two matches.
Stanford's attack has done its part as well, with captain JJ Koval along with forwards Zach Batteer and Eric Verso each scoring two goals over the past four victories. Batteer's brace in Friday's 2-0 win over Charleston doubled his season haul to a team-leading four goals.
Freshman forward Jordan Morris has also established himself as one of the Cardinal's playmakers, earning three assists to pace the team.
The trip to Santa Barbara will be the second in two years for the Cardinal, which captured a 1-0 overtime win over the then-25th-ranked Gauchos last Oct. 26.
Friday's match will be the middle of a seven-match homestand for the Gauchos (4-3-0), which split last weekend's matches, defeating Yale 3-1 before falling 1-0 to New Mexico.
Forward Achille Campion and midfielder Goffin Boyoko lead the Gauchos with three goals apiece, while Ismaila Jome has had a hand in three goals. Josh McNeely has started five matches in goal for UC Santa Barbara, making 11 saves while conceding just four goals (0.78 goals-against average).
The Cardinal leads the all-time series against the Gauchos, 12-5-2, dating back to 1978.
