2013 Pac-12 Network Men's Soccer Schedule

STANFORD, Calif. - Hosting 2012 College Cup squads Georgetown and Maryland, as well as eight televised appearances on the Pac-12 Network highlight the 2013 Stanford men's soccer schedule, which head coach Jeremy Gunn announced Tuesday.

"We are very excited to announce our 2013 schedule which features one of the toughest non-conference seasons in the nation," Gunn said. "We will face every type of test with so many mouthwatering matchups. We are thrilled that the Pac-12 Network will be showcasing eight of our games as the team continues our quest to return to the nation's elite."

The Cardinal, which went 9-8-1 overall in 2012 and finished third on the Pac-12 table at 5-4-1 (16 points), will have six of its 11 home matches at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium televised live on the Pac-12 Network beginning with Sept. 1's 4 p.m. kickoff against 2012 national runner-up Georgetown. The match concludes a must-see opening weekend which also features Stanford opening the new campaign Friday, Aug. 30 against 2012 College Cup participant Maryland at 7 p.m.

Stanford will feature an exciting squad in 2013 which features 2012 All-Pac-12 honorable mentions in forward Zach Batteer (six goals in 2012) and midfielder JJ Koval (two goals, two assists) as well as reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and second-team pick Aaron Kovar (three goals, two assists), a staple of the Cardinal midfield. Goalie Drew Hutchins (five shutouts, 1.21 GAA) oversees a defense that shutout six opponents and conceded just 23 goals last year, while the collective group played a key role in the Cardinal's 6-3-1 run over its final 10 matches.

Stanford plays five of its first six matches, and overall six of its eight non-conference matches at Cagan Stadium. Following the opening weekend against the Terrapins and Hoyas Stanford makes a short drive down El Camino Real to visit South Bay rival Santa Clara Sept. 7 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The Cardinal returns home for three straight matches at Cagan Stadium, hosting Grand Canyon (Sept. 13), College of Charleston (Sept. 20) and Colgate (Sept. 22), the latter of which will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network at 1 p.m.

September closes with a trip to UC Santa Barbara for the second straight year. The Cardinal, which upset the 25th-ranked Gauchos 1-0 in overtime in Santa Barbara last fall, goes for a second straight win on the coast Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.

The month of October brings with it the start of the Pac-12 hexagonal. The Cardinal opens the conference hex at Cagan Stadium, hosting Washington (Oct. 3, 7 p.m.) and Oregon State (Oct. 6, 3 p.m.) in a pair of Pac-12 Network broadcasts. Stanford takes its act on the road for its next three conference matches, with Pac-12 Network dates at UCLA (Oct. 10, 5:30 p.m.) and California (Oct. 20, 2:30 p.m.) sandwiching a clash with San Diego State (Oct. 13, 12 p.m.).

Stanford hosts San Francisco in its final non-conference match of the regular season Oct. 25, then resumes Pac-12 play Nov. 1 against UCLA at Cagan Stadium. That matchup, set for a 6 p.m. kickoff, will be shown live on Pac-12 Network. The weekend closes against San Diego State Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.

Following a trip to the Pacific Northwest and visits to Washington (Nov. 8) and Oregon State (Nov. 10), Stanford concludes the regular season with a midweek match against California, hosting the Golden Bears Wednesday, Nov. 13 on the Pac-12 Network.

"The race for the Pac-12 championship will be exhilarating. The conference was touted as the third-best in the nation last year, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is recognized even higher this year," Gunn noted about the level of the Pac-12 in 2013.
