STANFORD, Calif. - Following a spell of fun, camaraderie and reminiscing during its Alumni Weekend at Cagan Stadium, Stanford men's soccer returns to action for its spring finale Friday at 4 p.m. against Santa Clara at Buck Shaw Stadium.
This past weekend the Cardinal welcomed its alumni back to The Farm for a pair of matches (based on age group) as well as a barbecue meal. It provided a special opportunity for the up-and-coming Cardinal squad to reconnect with past players and teams, talk soccer and what it means to represent Stanford.
Returning to work this week, the Cardinal prepares for its spring finale at Santa Clara. During the fall season, the teams played a bruising, physical match which after 90 minutes fell Santa Clara's way by a 2-1 score. Friday's spring match, while not counting in the official standings, obviously, still provides a good challenge for the Cardinal as it gives it a chance to continue building upon its spring success against a team it sees year in and year out on the calendar.
So far this spring the Cardinal has compiled a record of 5-0-0 and outscored its opponents by a 17-2 margin. The two goals conceded by the Cardinal have come just in the past two matches as the defense has proven itself a force to be reckoned with this spring.
This Friday's match will be the final tune-up for the Cardinal before its summer workouts followed by the official start of its 2013 season training in early August.
