PORTLAND, Ore. – Stanford freshman Eliza Klyce was in Portland, Ore. on competing in the Junior Olympic Championships at the Oregon Convention Center.
Klyce opened up the tournament with four wins in her six pool play matches. She picked up victories over Corey Kilgallon, Olympia Peters, Nicole Vaiani and Julia Espinosa.
The four wins were good enough to advance her on to the final 64. She dominated in her first match, winning 15-6 against Emilie Rose Parker. However, she fell in a close contest to the No. 23 seed Gabby Zusin in the next round, 15-13.
Klyce wound up finishing in 47th place overall.
The next competition for Klyce and the Stanford fencing team will be the NCAA West Regionals in Pasadena, Calif. March 8-9.
